Theme
Our theme - Building Bridges - recognizes the need for integrating and building bridges in aquatic toxicology to find solutions for our national and global issues related to water. The bridging theme also recognizes the strength of the Toxicology Centre at the University of Saskatchewan and our capacity to build bridges across disciplines and with our national and international partners. Finally, and coincidentally, Saskatoon is known as the “City of Bridges” as the city straddles the South Saskatchewan River.

Venue
What visitors remember most about Saskatoon is the winding South Saskatchewan River, its banks lined with trees and the interconnecting trails of parks, communities and activities. The Meewasin Valley Centre, which provides a glimpse into the history of the city and the South Saskatchewan River valley, is set on the riverbank, as are the Ukrainian Museum of Canada and the Mendel Art Gallery & Civic Conservatory. A major new downtown riverbank development is underway and should provide dynamic new attractions by the fall of 2008.

The Western Development Museum provides a window into Saskatchewan’s past. The facility boasts a priceless collection of antique automobiles and tractors, plus “1910 Boomtown” - a life-size recreation of a main street from yesteryear and one of the longest indoor streets in North America.

The Wanuskewin Heritage Park, located 10 minutes north of Saskatoon, leaves an indelible impression of Northern Plains Indian culture. Much more than just a museum, Wanuskewin is an interactive environment that encourages visitors to learn about First Nations culture while providing spectacular views of the South Saskatchewan river valley.

Saskatoon also boasts eight golf courses offering championship-level play, modest green fees, accessible tee times, and unforgettable prairie hospitality. And speaking of hospitality, remember that Saskatoon is reputed to have more restaurants per capita than any city in Canada.
