ATW 2009 A world of connection Student Program

Welcome to the Student Program Page for ATW 2009 in the beautiful area of Charlevoix, in La Malbaie, Quebec! We have lots of student activities planned over the duration of this workshop. Some of the key ones are described below. To obtain more information, please contact Jocelyne Pellerin, chair of the Student program committee (jocelyne_pellerin@uqar.qc.ca).

Platform and Poster Presentation Awards

As in previous years, there will be awards for the top 3 platform and poster presentations given by students at the workshop. To qualify for this competition, the presenter must be an undergraduate or graduate student at the time he or she registers for ATW. Students entering the competition will be evaluated by a panel of judges. First, Second, and Third place finishers will be announced during the Wednesday lunch on the final day of ATW and presented with their awards at that time.

To aid in the preparation of the platform or poster presentations for the student competition, more information is provided here.

Student Co-Chairs and Judges

Students will be invited to serve as Co-chairs for the platform sessions and as judges (paired with mentors) for student award competition. These are great opportunities to gain some valuable experience and to learn how the sessions and judging programs work. Student co-chairing will involve introducing speakers and chairing questions from the audience. Student judges will be paired with a mentor and will be required to attend the presentation(s) or poster(s) they are assigned to judge and confer with their mentor prior to the submission of marks. The final decision for marking rests with the mentor.

To sign up and participate in this event, be sure to select this option on your registration form.

Career Panel

Sunday, September 27th (Scheduled for 17:00 – 19:00)

This event provides you with a great opportunity to speak with people who work in Government Departments, Universities, Industries and Environmental Consulting to find out what different careers entail. After the career panel, time will be allowed to freely discuss with Panellists and other students.

Bits of food and refreshments will be available. This is a ‘no-pressure’ event and will finish before the plenary session starts.

To sign up and participate in this event, be sure to select this option on your registration form.

Student Mentor Lunch

Tuesday, September 29th (Scheduled for 12:00 – 13:00)

During the Tuesday lunch break, students and mentors will be assigned to specific tables in St. François Room, providing the opportunity to interact throughout the lunch in a very informal and relaxed setting.

To sign up and participate in this event, be sure to select this option on your registration form. This event is free if you are already attending the Tuesday lunch!

Student Volunteer

Get Involved! We would love to have students help out with this program during the conference. Duties may include manning the student registration table, helping other students set up posters and generally helping the organizers when needed for 1-2 hours per shift. This is a great networking opportunity!

To participate, be sure to select this option on your registration form.
